When you have in-between-y sized kids, too small to walk far on their own legs, but too heavy to carry any distance, family walks can be tricky. You need either a buggy-friendly route, or a decent child-carrier backpack. And HEAPS of patience.
Now DD is four, we’re finally coming out the other side. Yesterday, we walked 6.3km WITH NOT ONE SINGLE COMPLAINT, all three kiddos on their own two feet!
Usually I expect to give a piggy-back or two, but this time DD didn’t even ask. What a tough cookie she’s turning out to be.
We drove about half an hour to a suburb of Toulouse called Muret, where quiet footpaths follow the meandering Garonne. We have the excellent Sentiers d’Emilie guide book, but had to adapt the route slightly as it was far too muddy in the dingly dell by the river.
There was one fairly steep climb and plenty of slipping and sliding, but good moods prevailed all round and lots of wholesome family fun was had. In total it took us an hour and 45 minutes, with just a couple of short pauses to gobble marshmallows and glug water.
We ate our picnic back at the start point and the kids were very amused by having to drive home in their underwear, their trousers being deemed far too filthy for the company car!
I’m excited to see what further family adventures 2022 will hold…
